Rumor: iOS 10 Jailbreak tool will be Open-source

Since iOS 10 beta released, we have been hearing the iOS 10 jailbreak news occasionally, starting from Pangu’s iOS 10 beta 1 Jailbreak Demo in MOSEC, and recent tweet of iOS 10.1.1 Jailbreak from famous Italian iOS hacker Luca Todesco. But none of them has any intention to release the jailbreak any time soon, especially when Apple is now working more tediously in releasing newer versions of iOS to make it more secure and improve user experience with more new features.

A popular post on Chinese social media Weibo today comes from a security research in Alibaba – one of the biggest internet companies in China and the parent company of PP, Pangu Jailbreak Team’s long-term partner – claimed that the iOS 10 Jailbreak tool is coming soon and will be Open-Sourced.

In his message, he also speculated that if this is the future, iOS jailbreak will be like rooting for Android and gets more popular. Popular Chinese tech site Weiphone, that always reports jailbreak news in a speedy way, commented that unless people stop upgrading their iOS, like many other Android users forced to (due to unavailability), Apple will certainly patch it right away.

At the end of his tweet, he tried to protect himself from fan bashing if a jailbreak won’t happen in the end as it is really up to the jailbreak team to release it or not.

Based on a single tweet like this, it is not persuasive enough until we see the real thing come out, and especially his disclaimer in the end makes things look more sketchy. He was not answering any questions about ETA or who will release the jailbreak, as expected.

However, it is still possible to some extent as he may be able to hear some insider news in Alibaba which is very close to PP and Pangu teams.

Anyway, what do you think about this rumor and how do you see the future of Jailbreak? Let me know in the comments.
