Reviewing ThinCharge – The world’s thinnest battery case for iPhone 6/6S

If you are looking for a nice iPhone battery case without being too bulky, this is definitely the one for you.

This is ThinCharge, the world’s thinnest battery charging case for iPhones. The case was 380% crowd-funded on Indiegogo in October 2015, which appears to be really popular with such proven track record. Check out the full video review below for a better impression:

Unboxing

There is no special characteristic in terms of packaging. You are able to see the ThinCharge battery case itself from the plastic film. Once unboxed, you will find there is the battery case itself, some warm safety tips before using the case, and a user manual to help you get started.

However, there is no charging cable bundled with the battery case in the retail package. But you can actually use your own lightning cable or get a Keychain Charging Cable from ChargeTech for just $2o. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get one as they are ran out of stock by the time I placed my order.

The ThinCharge Battery Case

ThinCharge has a capacity of 2,600 mAh. The case some with a super sleek design but only accompanied with black color option and is only compatible with the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6s. The polycarbonate case itself is quite solid and hard that you can’t really bend it at all, nor can you simply snap your iPhone into the case. One little downside is that the outer surface finish does attract some fingerprint that you may want to bear in mind when using it.

Speaking of thickness, the case itself is only 11mm thick thanks to the flat finish at the back. It weighs 70 grams only which is very impressive. It is noticeably thinner than the Mophie battery case, but still does add some thickness to the super thin iPhones.

It is not the easiest way to put on the case in the universe. It is because that you will need to take off the removable bar on the top of the case first, slide in your iPhone along the tray, plug in the lightning connector at the bottom, put the bar back on to the case, and you are good to go.

At the back of the case, there is an opening for the rear-facing camera and the LED flash. On the left hand side, there is a covered up power button, and on the other side there are the covered volume up and down buttons and a Silence toggle cut-out. They are actually the functional keys of the battery case  but they do function like normal keys as usual.

At the bottom of the case, there are openings for the headphone jack and speaker grills. However, the headphone jack opening can only fit in the connector of Apple’s earphone, but not for those with a slightly larger diameter, not to say those with L-shape jacks.

Get started

Speaking of the functional buttons, you can power on the case and start charging up your iPhone by holding down the volume-up button. If you want to turn it off again, simply hold down the volume-down button for a few seconds.

You can also easily check how much juice left inside the case by holding down the volume-up button for a seconds and the green LED power indicator on the volume-down button will flash with a certain frequency. For instance, 3 times means below one-third left, and, 1 time means more than two-third left.

One of the best features of ThinCharge is that you can charge the phone and the case at the same time through the Lightning port on the case that is covered by a charging port protector. Having the charging port at the top will make life much easier with the cable away from you without annoying you too much when holding up the phone in your hand.

So how fast can ThinCharge case charging up your phone? Based on the rough test in my review video, it takes roughly 3 minutes to charge up 1% of the phone. Not 100% accurate, but you get the point.

Conclusions

Overall speaking, I am really impressed with the design and performance of the  case and nothing much to complain about it. It comes with a sleek and minimal design, is perfectly functional as advertised, comfortable to hold in hand that doesn’t bulk up the iPhone at all. You can now pick it up from ChargeTech for $129 if you missed the crowdfunding campaign and interested in it.
