There has been wide coverage of PP iOS 8.4 Jailbreak for its blazingly fast release. On the other hand, they were accused for stealing the codes and techniques of TaiG Jailbreak Tool that created enormous echo from the jailbreak community overnight. There is a big fight on Chinese micro-blogging site Weibo between TaiG and PP overnight (Beijing time midnight till early morning) and for those who do not understand Chinese characters, here’s the full story on Weibo on this fight (Time indicated below is Beijing Standard Time +0800):
01:23 – Cammi H from iDigitalTimes tweeted out a conversation with TaiG team that confirmed PP used TaiG’s exploits without authorization.
01:34 – TaiG blamed PP for stealing exploits and announced to release iOS 8.4 jailbreak update within 1 hour after conducting systematic and strict internal testing. They also said that they will take legal action against PP for plagiarism. Cammi has also tweeted out a translated version of the below:
02:45 – PP reported that their official site and forum were getting anonymous cyber-attacks. They were having an emergency maintenance and recommended users to download the jailbreak tool EXE from the direct link instead of going to the site.
03:18 – TaiG officially released Jailbreak Tool V2.2.0 to support iOS 8.4 and emphasized that they should be the first the break things through in the pictures below. In their Weibo post, as usual, they recommended usage of TaiG Pro to flash restore the devices to be jailbroken.
The real fight had just arrived…
At 5am in the morning, both PP (left) and TaiG (right) team published official notice on their Weibo account. Of course, TaiG is putting up a strong stance against the shameless plagiarism by the PP/Pangu Team. Since both are in Chinese and in picture format, as native speaker, we are translating the full contents for you below:
From PP Assistant:
After Apple released the new iOS 8.4, PP released iOS 8.4 jailbreak tool. The tool is solely developed by us. The source code is genuine. The part of the exploits used were public/known ones and majority of these were from overseas. Meanwhile, we saved some exploits for the next iOS jailbreak.
P.S. Regarding the team that needed to purchase exploits and even codes from overseas hackers, and needed to wait for overseas hackers’ update to make their tool to be compatible with the new firmware, but still trying to shape themselves with bright and great figure, we can only chuckle. Fact will tell.
Upon the time POP released iOS 8.4 jailbreak, our official website, bbs (forum), including server client were down due to serious attacks. It is not that we don’t have the ability to fight back in the same way, but because we are dismissive to use such means and techniques. At the same time, we put up security shield to resolve from being attacked, and retained relevant evidence to be submitted to the Police. We believe we are able to uncover the attacker with the Police and about ability. You are just too impatient to use such mean, maybe the overseas guys are dating with their girlfriends so they don’t have the time to help you update! You should understand justice has long arms, don’t step on the mine!
The PP Assistant Team always tries the best to make the tool perfect and don’t want to be engaged in endless debates. Regarding misleading users and playing “word games”, we believe the users are clear on that. We are not interested in such and our biggest wish is to deliver good products
From TaiG Team:
As everyone knows, the TaiG team released iOS 8.1.3-8.3 jailbreak tool. In fact, the tool has well supported iOS 8.4 betas for an untethered jailbreak. Meanwhile, taking the fact that iOS 8.4 would be released within a week and the exploits/vulnerability will not be patched by Apple, the TaiG team had been waiting for the official release of iOS 8.4 before we bring the best jailbreak experience to users.
What shocked us is that the PP Assistant Team had decoded TaiG jailbreak tool from kernel level and released the so-called “Perfect iOS 8.4 Untethered Jailbreak” jailbreak tool within 1 hour after iOS 8.4 release by making use of the exploits discovered by the TaiG. The tool was distributed by PP Jailbreak Assistant and only the program UI was being tweaked. This action seriously infringed the intellectual property right of TaiG team. This is the second time that PP Assistant copied TaiG jailbreak since TaiG jailbreak on iOS 8.1.1 in November 2014. Here we solemnly declare that we severely criticised on PP Assistant’s for unfair competition, and reserve the right to take legal actions against it.
As the leading jailbreak team in China, TaiG thinks that: developing jailbreak is a good example to demonstrate the spirit of geeks/hackers. We only help to do this to bring better experience for (iOS) users. Not only that PP is infringing on the legal rights of TaiG, but also going against the geek’s spirit. Besides, before this plagiarism happened, TaiG was doing a final test before the release. However at that time, we were precisely cyber-attacked and we were even disconnected from the internet. Currently we are still chasing the root of attack, so to provide those who concerned on this issue with facts. Finally, we hope all TaiG supporters to join us to be against PP and defend for the jailbreak spirit and the Pure Land in your heart.
Earlier this morning (Beijing time 07:26), TaiG posted 2 pictures on their Weibo and compared the kernel and signatures and the exploits used. They accused PP for copying again as the technique is the same and fought back that this is the ultimate fact:
So as I mentioned in my previous post, literally we should support TaiG jailbreak as they are the genuine and legitimate one. For full rundown and tutorial of using TaiG to jailbreak iOS 8.4, Jeff from iDownloadBlog has given a really clear and in-depth covering also the preparation work before jailbreaking.
