I just want to give my 2 cents on smartwatches.
For Android users, there are just abundance of choices in the markets for Android Wear or those running on other types of OS (such as Tizen, or WebOS) that communicate to Android. For iOS, probably the only and best choice when this post uploaded is Pebble.
Pebble does just what I need from a smartwatch – notification, alarm and simple quick views, when I does not want or not convenient to pull my phone from the pocket.
If you need a fitness tracker, then you better get the single purpose ones in my opinion. If you need a combo, well, I am not seeing smartwatches that come near to the performance of a single purpose fitness tracker like fitbit Flex. If Apple does take away the Health features from Apple Watch to trade off for better battery life or other functionalities aiming at Apple Car, then it basically have no sense for you to get one for the sake of fitness feature.
So talking about battery life, Pebble has been doing a great job in making it up to 7-10 days. Android Wears have been improving to 3-5 days with AMOLED displays which is nice. For Apple Watch, now the latest rumor is 1 day mix usage. It also comes with Power Saving mode which gives us a very negative perception on its battery life, because none of the wearables in the market has this feature. So if it cannot last long for operation, it is nothing really better than Pebble or even a normal mechanical watch.
Anyway, let’s pray for surprise from Apple tonight.
